Switzerland felt like I had been there before because of all my reading.
You would need to spend sometime exploring all the different areas and cultures of Switzerland. Where it borders on France, it has taken on the French culture. The same with Italy and Germany. The jewel lakes, majestic mountains, charming villages tucked away in the hillsides, and friendly people are evident in every area.
I was so excited to be there I could hardly sleep. So much to see and do and my times was way to short. I must go back.
The Swiss transportation system is marvelous-a car is not needed. You can get a pass that works on all the trains, busses, boats and cog rail lines all over the country. Some excursions are not included but give you 50% discount with the pass.
The coolest thing they have is when you check your luggage to your destination, it arrives at your hotel. Amazing and so convenient. The trains are clean, smoke-free and ontime, you you need to be early. Don’t over pack as it is sometimes hard to drag that bag onto the train (I found out). The sightseeing trains are magnificient- Glacier Express, Bernina Express, Golden Pass Line and many more. In addition there are regional railways such as Jungfrau, Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, Swiss Chocolate, Jura, etc.
